Roles & Responsibilities
What is the role and responsibility of the teacher?
Prairie Scholé is a true cooperative. The instructor is a delegate, supporting the parent in their homeschooling leadership not taking over the role. It becomes a co-teaching effort, begun by the teacher but continued by the parent at home.
Scholé instructors require some ongoing education concerning restful, classical education in order to create a cohesive focus for the group. Teachers must read and agree to the terms and expectations laid out in the Teacher/Volunteer handout.
What is the role and responsibility of the parent?
Parents at the grammar school level (PreK-6th) must participate in the day (unless they have selected the drop-off option), either assisting with a class, serving in some capacity, or modeling engaged learning alongside the students and supporting the authority of the teacher. As our learners age and progress, parents continue to be actively engaged in the student’s learning by overseeing assignments and communicating with teachers. Teachers will communicate any specific parental expectations for their particular classes.
What is the role and responsibility of the student?
Prairie Scholé students are expected to operate within a framework of Christian standards of behavior and conduct. While in class, a teacher is the authority, supported by the parent. This means there should be no talking back or unsolicited arguing with a teacher. Prompt and cheerful obedience is expected, as well as a respect for the physical space.
At the grammar level, students will be expected to participate fully in class, while assignments suggested for outside of class will be left to the discretion of the parent, who understand that outside work will help their student achieve success.
High School students and some junior high students are required to complete all assignments to receive proper credit.
