Early Learners (ages 3-5)


​Circle Time
After morning liturgy, our early learners gather for Circle Time and Psalms, where we will sing, recite, and delight in God’s Word together. Students will commit select Psalms to memory through repetition, song, and discussion while enjoying read-alouds that connect with our Ancient History studies. This joyful time cultivates wonder, attentiveness, and a love for the true, good, and beautiful as we begin our day together.

Gentle+ Classical for our Earliest Learners
​The Gentle + Classical Preschool 2nd edition was designed with your child's development and natural rhythms in mind. It was created for parents who want to provide structure, focus on character development and faith, and add intention into their child's preschool years. Through the use of scripture-based stories, fables, and gentle and beautiful picture books that coincide with our history cycle, our young learners will grow together in the virtues of patience, good manners, and perseverance; develop listening and oral language skills; and deepen their memorization skills.

A time for fellowship, snacks, and free play is a part of each day too!

Lower Grammar Level (K-1st Grade)

​Song School Latin 1
Target Age: Song School Latin 1 is offered to 1st-2nd graders. Students should be able (or learning) to read.

Song School Latin is a program that matches the energy, developmental level, and fun-loving nature of your youngest students. Tailored for young children, this delightfully gentle introduction to Latin offers lessons that are peppered with songs, enjoyable vocabulary, illustrations, handwriting practice, stories, games, and engaging activities. Children will love learning Latin!

Note: Students who went through the program for the first time in the 2026-2027 academic year and new students will take this class together, with the former focused on reinforcing vocabulary through recitation and copywork.

Astronomy through picture books and handicrafts
Children have a natural love of the heavens. We'll nurture this wonder through stories, picture books, and hands-on activities while we explore the sun, moon, constellations, planets, and other wonders of the universe.

The Story of the World: Ancient History
As the name implies, The Story of the World is a story-filled, integrated approach to the history of the ancient world. In this cycle, students will be transported to the earliest civilizations of Mesopotamia, journey alongside the Hebrews, Egyptians, and Greeks, experience the drama of history's most famous battles, hear the stories and myths that shaped the ancient world, and discover why the world still echoes with the names of Sargon, Moses, Hammurabi, Cyrus, Alexander the Great, Socrates, and Caesar.

Students will read or listen to the assigned Story of the World chapters at home before class.

Required Materials: The Story of the World, Vol 1 book or audiobook

Children’s Theater
Our semester-long Children’s Theater program gives younger students the exciting opportunity to collaborate and perform on stage. Under the guidance of an instructor and alongside their peers, students will help adapt, block, and perform stories from Aesop's Fables.

This class emphasizes courage and teamwork, while gently introducing stage presence, vocal projection, and memorization. Whether your child loves the spotlight or is just beginning to come out of their shell, Children’s Theater nurtures good memorization habits, a sense of wonder, and just plain joy.

​Middle Grammar Level (2nd-3rd grade)

The Story of the World: Ancient History Enrichment
As the name implies, The Story of the World is a story-filled, integrated approach to the history of the ancient world. In this cycle, students will be transported to the great civilizations of Mesopotamia, journey alongside the Hebrews, Egyptians, and Greeks, experience the drama of history's most famous battles, hear the stories and myths that shaped the ancient world, and discover why the world still echoes with the names of Sargon, Moses, Hammurabi, Cyrus, Alexander the Great, Socrates, and Caesar.

Students will read or listen to the assigned Story of the World chapters at home before class.

Astronomy is the first science and children have a natural love of the heavens. We'll nurture this wonder through stories, picture books, recitation and carefully selected hands-on activities while we explore the sun, moon, constellations, planets, and other wonders of the universe.

Introductory Latin
​Our Introductory Latina class provides a joyful and gentle introduction to the language that shaped theology, science, law, medicine, and much of Western literature. Using Prima Latina as our primary text and incorporating the engaging songs from Song School Latin 2, students will build a strong foundation through vocabulary, pronunciation, prayers, Latin sayings, and beginning grammar.

Along the way, parents will discover how Latin strengthens their child’s understanding of English vocabulary and grammar while laying the groundwork for future language study.

Students should expect a modest amount of review and workbook exercises at home each week. By year's end, they will have developed confidence with introductory Latin vocabulary and grammar and will be well prepared to continue into Latina Christiana.

Using a variety of texts, we'll introduce your students to one of our mother tongues. 

Shakspearean Theater
A hallmark of Prairie Scholé from its first year, Shakespearean Theater invites students to engage with the Bard the way he intended: on stage.

Logic and rhetoric level students will grapple with the language, wit, and moral imagination of Shakespeare's plays through guided rehearsal and performance. Rather than shying away from the complexity of Elizabethan English, students will rise to the challenge—discovering that deep understanding is best achieved through expression and embodiment.

Parents will delight to see their students reach new heights in poise, confidence, and literary understanding, while the burgeoning thespians will develop skills in memorization, vocal projection, and stage presence, explore character motivation and moral themes, and work toward a final performance for families and the wider co-op community

No prior acting experience is required; a willingness to learn and listen attentively is a must.

Rhetoric Stage (9th-12th grade)

Colloquy
A unique feature of Prairie Scholé’s high school program, Colloquy is a 40-minute weekly seminar that invites students to explore the cultural, spiritual, and artistic heritage of the West. Through the recitation of Latin prayers, appreciation of great hymns and art, and the study of poetry, students engage in a broad dialogue across time and tradition. 

As part of our mission, Colloquy is required for all high school students enrolled in Friday's Core Program but offered free of charge. Colloquy explores those essential threads of civilization that risk being lost in the rush of modern education—language, music, and art. It provides our students with a more well-rounded liberal arts tradition. Rooted in beauty, Colloquy cultivates memory, wonder, and wisdom in a way no textbook can.

Required Materials: A commonplace book. One will be provided your student upon request

Classical Studies
Our high school humanities offering is Classical Studies: Ancient World, a course combining ancient literature, history, logic, and rhetoric. We are building this course class by class, and parents can use it to fill high school credit requirements (literature, history, electives, etc.) as they see fit.

Simply put, students cannot understand the modern world unless they have studied the ancient world. In this engaging class offered by a variety of instructors, students will encounter the ancient world not as disconnected facts, but as a living inheritance by reading important texts, tracing the rise and fall of civilizations, considering enduring questions of logic and rhetoric, and learning to think and speak with clarity, charity, and conviction.​ 

Classical Studies includes a unit on the five canons of rhetoric, the three modes of persuasion and the six parts of discourse. 

Required Materials: Texts include Classical Rhetoric: Logic and Rhetoric, Volume III, The Epic of Gilgamesh, Homer's The Odyssey, Oedipus Rex and Antigone. Additional texts may be added.

Classical Astronomy

This chain was broken in the 19th century with the modern industrial era.  The tradition is lost, the sky forgotten… until now.

Signs & Seasons was originally created as a homeschool curriculum, though it has garnered an adult readership as a popular introduction to visual astronomy.  A lesson in a science or nature curriculum should not consist solely of reading a book, and then closing it with a sense of having obtained a complete lesson. Rather, a meaningful lesson in science and nature is only obtained by direct observation and interaction with the natural world. The essence of Signs & Seasons is the outdoor Field Activities.

Fine Art Elective (See Tuesday Classes)

Tuesday Classes

On Tuesdays, families may enroll in a slightly abbreviated time for younger students while high-school students participate in their second day of classes. Except for an elective hour, Tuesday classes are a continuation of Friday's classes, but can be taken and enjoyed independently. 

​This rhythm is against treating history or science as merely information to be delivered. Like you, we want our students to enter into the wonder, order, beauty, and meaning of what they are studying.
Rhetoric Stage (9th-12th grade)

Both Astronomy and Classical Studies continue on Tuesdays (11:00 - 2:15) while Colloquy is limited to Friday. An elective hour follows classes. A full schedule is available to registrants.

Fine Art with Mrs. Hofman
From pottery and mosaics to painting and architecture, students won't just learn about history, they'll create it through hands-on studio projects. Understanding where art comes from helps us better appreciate the cultures, ideas, and workmanship. This course provides a balanced exploration of art appreciation and studio art while examining the influential civilizations and artistic movements that shaped history. 

Students will create original works through pottery, mosaics, painting, sculpture, and architecture using a variety of artistic media.

Students may build, create, test, taste, and explore as they deepen their understanding of the ancient world.
